RUTHERFORD, Napa County — Napa County’s Flood Control and Water Conservation District continues monitoring a restored 4.5-mile stretch of the Napa River between Zinfandel Lane Bridge and Oakville Cross Road Bridge.
The district’s official monitoring directory links to the 2025 annual monitoring report for the Rutherford Reach. The landowner-initiated program addresses erosion, fish and riparian habitat, sediment reduction, and the long-term stability of riverbanks through measures including setback berms, vegetated buffers and floodplain benches.
What has been completed?
The district’s reports document the completion of the main restoration construction phases by 2014. The project has since entered long-term monitoring and maintenance. This distinction matters: a 2025 monitoring report does not mean the entire 4.5 miles was under new construction in 2025.
Why keep measuring the river?
High-water periods, vegetation growth and sediment movement can change a channel after work is finished. Regular surveys help determine whether bank repairs and habitat structures are performing as intended and whether selective maintenance is required.
Not all riverfront land is public recreation land. Residents and researchers should respect private property and use authorized access when examining the reach.
The district lists 707-259-8600 for questions and documents.
